Shirley was born to A.W. Brooks, Sr. and Goldia Brooks on October 9, 1936 in Birmingham, Alabama and the eldest of eight children.  She was a gifted pianist and singer.

Shirley was married to Bliss Cornell Pope.  They had two sons, Colliness and Alexander.  She lived for her family and what she so affectionately called "her boys."  She was the epitome of a mother and there was nothing she would not do for them.

Her husband, Bliss preceded her in death in 1999.  She remarried Rev. Newt Dixon, who also preceded her in death in 2019.

Shirley returned to her roots to be with her sisters in Alabama.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memory: her sons Colliness and Alexander; grandsons, brother, Malchan (Sharleau) Brooks, Sr., Chicago, IL; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial service for Ms. Shirley Pope will be Sunday, September 5, 2021at 2:00 p.m. at the Nelms Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
