Pinkie Lee
Harris
Feb 6, 1940 — Oct 30, 2020
Pinkie Lee Harris , age 80, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2020. She was born on February 6, 1940 to the late William Louis Pope and Annie Cawthorne Stewart. She is the third eldest sibling of a family of eight. Her sisters Gladys Jordan (Rabbit), Macelean Pope Battle (James) and Elizabeth Pettus Morrison (Herbert) preceded her in death. She was married to her long-time companion, Frank Harris who preceded her in death.
Pinkie was raised and educated in the Madison County School system. Soon thereafter, she started her family and a career in residential cleaning services. She was known for her exceptional, organizational skills.
Pinkie enjoyed many traditional hobbies like cooking, cleaning, quilting, canning and gardening. But the one noteworthy hobby, she mastered was her ability to find the best deals at thrift stores. She found those hidden treasures and generously shared them with family and friends.
Pinkie loved to read accounts in the Bible and often entertained home Bible studies. She loved taking in accurate knowledge of the Bible. She believed God's kingdom was the only hope for mankind. She held on to the hope of being reunited with her dead loved ones. She often dreamed of her dear mother, Annie, father Louis, sister Macelean and son Chris. These deceased loved ones were forever on her mind and heart. Her faith gave her stability during her lifetime and a hope for the future.
Pinkie loved to love on people. She was a much-loved mother of two biological children, Christopher Harris who preceded her in death and Sandra Gilbert whom she affectionately nicknamed 'Squilly'. She had a special place in her heart for children. She raised and nurtured children in need as her own throughout her lifetime. One such special child was, Marcus Drake whom she raised from infancy to adulthood. She was especially fond of her grandson Christopher Harris Jr. He was the apple of her eye!
What we will miss most is Pinkie's feisty personality! She was never shy to share her opinion. She was loyal and supportive of her family and friends, always fearlessly defended them. She first developed this disposition when growing up with her beloved sister, Macelean (Makie). Less than 10 months apart, this duo were like 'Irish Twins'. They favored one another, sharing the same contagious smile. Makie and Pinkie had an unbreakable bond, facing challenges together and creating a memorable life!
She leaves to cherish her memories: a daughter, Sandra Gilbert (Booker T.); one son, Marcus Drake (Kalexis); one grandson, Christopher Harris, Jr.; one granddaughter Kamryn Drake; two sisters, JoAnn Rogers (Chester); Michelle Pope; two brothers, William Louis Pope, Jr.; Rickey Pope (Bonnie) all of Huntsville, Alabama; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
