Sister Bertha Mae (Pitts) Youngblood was born May 18, 1930, near Shorter, Alabama.  She relocated to Detroit, Michigan where she attended public school at night to receive her high school diploma from John J. Pershing High.  Shortly after she went to the Marygrove College where she received her nursing LPN license, and worked at small Black Hospital in Detroit. Ms. Bertha went back to school to become a registered nurse, where she mentored a number of young nurses.

Her interests were multifaceted.  She went to beauty school and received a Master Cosmetologist license.  Another passion was joining the Order of the Eastern Star, she became a Worthy Matron of the Ellecta Grand Chapter.

Mrs. Bertha M. Youngblood accepted Jesus Christ at an early age, in Detroit, Michigan, she joined the Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. T. C. Span.

After marrying James Youngblood, they moved to Huntsville, Alabama, and was well loved in the community.

Sister Bertha became a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church, which became another one of her passions, where she worshipped and sang in the choir for many years, under the pastorship of the Rev. Dr. Julius Scruggs.

Sister Bertha was preceded in death by her husband James Matthew Youngblood, two sons, Algerome Pitts and Michael Andrea Smith; two brothers, Jimmie Lee Pitts and Calloway R. Pitts.  She leaves to mourn two daughters, Ms. Velma Pitts of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Beverly A. Batten (Jackie) of Huntsville, Alabama; two grands, Shana (Smith) Fields of Huntsville, AL, and Andre T, Pitts of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; four great grandchildren, Navaeh Fields and Michael A. Pitts II of Huntsville, AL, Amiyah Pitts and Autumn Pitts of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and a host of special relatives and friends.

Funeral service for Mrs. Bertha Youngblood will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2021at the Nelms Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Leslie Eno officiating.  Interment will be in Valley View Memorial Gardens.
