Mr. Curtis Stewart, the son of Edgar and Sarah Petty Stewart, was born in Madison County on January 25, 1953.  His journey of life ended on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Huntsville Hospital. Curtis will live on forever in the hearts and memories of those who loved him the most.

He made his profession of faith in Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior early in life at St. Rebecca Primitive Baptist Church of Hazel Green, Alabama under the pastoral leadership of the late Elder Joe Pendleton. Curtis later joined the First Missionary Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama under the pastorate of the Reverend Dr. Julius R. Scruggs.

Curtis received his elementary education through the Madison County School System, graduating from Buckhorn High School in 1972. Curtis later joined the United States Army, serving two tours in Germany.  Upon returning home, he enrolled in J. F. Drake Technical College to further his studies.

He was employed with Huntsville Housing Authority from October 24, 1996 to January 4, 2017 as a security guard.  He retired with 21 years of service.

Curtis was known for his caring and loving spirit.  He took pleasure in caring for the elderly and others.  He was the family's personal caterer.  He enjoyed cooking for his family, especially frying turkeys for family holiday meals. Most of all, Curtis just loved his family.  He was always his nieces' and nephews' biggest fan, and a one-man support team.  He showed his love for his family through his giving spirit and unending patience.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents (Sam and Ruby Hicks Petty) and his paternal grandparents (Langford and Ollie Tatum Stewart).

He leaves to cherish his memory: loving parents: Edgar and Sarah Stewart; one brother : Charlie (Theodora) Stewart; five sisters : Brenda Stewart, Shirley Stewart, Lorene (Reginald) Sandifer, Alice Stewart, and Sara Stewart; five nieces: Kristina Stewart, Erica (William Chris) Dillard, Risha Stewart, Robin (Mark) Drake, and Allison Stewart; three nephews : Cedric Stewart, Alex (Candace) Stewart and Aaron Sandifer; five great nieces :  Faith Stewart, Shyenne Stewart, Shelbi Stewart, Savannah Stewart , and Ariyah Dillard; four great nephews :  Cedric Stewart, Jr., Mark Anthony Drake, Jeremiah Stewart, and Julius Carter Drake; four aunts: Beleta Bell, Spencie Jolly, Mildred Hawk, and Marie Stewart; a godson : Justice Hodge. His memory will also be cherished by many relatives and friends.

Graveside service for Mr. Curtis Stewart will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 18, 2021 at Valhalla Memory Gardens with the Reverend Dr. Don Darius Butler officiating.
