With heavy hearts, we remember and celebrate the life of Willie David McCormick, lovingly known as "David" or "Big Dave." He passed away on June 24, 2024, at the age of 68. Born on July 17,1955, in Dillon, South Carolina, to his late parents, William L. McCormick and Ludie B. McCormick.
Willie, was a cherished member of his community. Willie graduated from Dillon High School. After moving to Huntsville, David attended The Hand of God Ministries with pastor Donald Barney. He started his work career at Hamer Spinning Mill but found his true passion on the open road. Willie spent most of his life driving big trucks and also drove a bus for the Conway Transit Authority. Willie loved music and was a talented drummer. Many people knew him as the drummer for the Traveling Sons gospel group from Hamer, SC. Through his music, he brought joy and comfort to many people. His musical talent and kind heart will always be remembered.
Willie is survived by: his loving wife, Shirley Brooks McCormick; step-children: Kim (Charles) Garrett of Madison, AL, Carlos Tiller of Huntsville, AL, Michelle Hawkins of Huntsville, AL and Perry Ann Hawkins of Huntsville, AL; and two special grandsons, Tyree Hawkins and Tyren Hawkins. He was a wonderful brother to Lena Haynesworth of Philadelphia, PA; William Charlie (Rietta) McCormick of Lawton, OK; Teresa McCormick of Hamer, SC; Tony McCormick of Hamer, SC; Mitchell McCormick of Charlotte, NC; Richard McCormick of Charlotte, NC; and Lynn Sealey of Lumberton, NC.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Leroy McCormick Jr. and Edward McCormick, and his sister Sarah McCormick.
Willie was a caring grandfather, to his grandkids and a wonderful uncle to many nieces and nephews. His kindness, wisdom, and generosity touched many lives. His memory will live on in our hearts. Willie David McCormick, "Big Dave," will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. His spirit will always be with us, and his legacy will continue to inspire and uplift us all.

Funeral service for Mr. Willie D. McCormick will be Sunday, July 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Nelms Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Donald Barney, Officiant. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
