Obituary

Mrs. Willie Mae Gurley was born on October 26, 1941 in Madison County to the late James Bradford and Katherine Baker. She departed her life on October 9, 2020 at home with her family. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Willie Erskine Gurley, Sr.; her son Willie Erskine Gurley, Jr.; four sisters, Linda Townsend, Pamela Cross, Dorothy Nance and Lorine Nance; three brothers, James Bradford, Jr., Ollie D. Bradford, and Archie D. Bradford.

Willie Mae confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined the Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend F. T. Blackwell. She served as a member of the choir, was the choir director and was an advisor of the youth department; she was also one of the head cooks in the church kitchen. Singing and cooking were her passions; her favorite song was "God Has Smiled on Me" , and her testimony would feed the world.

She leaves to cherish her memories: three daughters, Beatrice Hardy, Glenda Tyler (Matthew), and Sherry Thompson (Richard); two sons, Theodore Gurley (a special friend Margaret) and Toney Gurley (Norris) all of Huntsville, AL; two brothers, Danny Baker (Debra) and Carl Baker (Vinda); and one sister, Ora Lee Thomas (Robert) all of Gurley, AL; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Williams and Nadine Farris (Charles); two brothers-in-law, Roger Gurley (Gerri) and Howard Nance; fifteen grandchildren; seven great grandkids; a host of nieces and nephews; and one very special friend, Mother Eddie Mae Kelly.

Graveside service for Mrs. Willie Mae Gurley will be Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. at Valhalla Memory Gardens with Pastor Brandon Nance officiating.
