Mr. Walter Stewart , aka "Papa" was born September 12, 1947, to the late Jim Matt Stewart, Sr. and Mamie Kirksey Stewart and raised in Madison County, Alabama. He entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at his home. In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by: his brothers, Watell Stewart and Willie Stewart; brother-in-law, James A. Thompson; sister-in-law, Cora Stewart; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Darnell and Doris Joiner.
Walter accepted Christ during summer revival in 1981 and united with First Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Julius R. Scruggs where he remained a faithful member. Walter was a dependable, caring and compassionate person always concerned with the wellbeing of family, friends, and neighbors and always willing to assist when and wherever needed.
He was filled with knowledge and advice and seemed to have solutions to everyone's needs. Some of his interests included: fishing, tennis, growing flowers, and his favorite pastime, cooking.
He was gainfully employed over 30 years in the automotive industry and was a skilled Transmission Specialist for Automatic Transmission Company from where he retired in 2010.
He leaves treasured memories with: his loving and devoted wife of almost 41 years, Patricia; children, Anthony Stewart, Stacy (Patricia) Stewart, Carla Burwell, Byron (LaDonna) Stewart, Trevor Stewart, Tameika Stewart, Pamela (Brandon) Graham, and Kaylin Taliaferro; sister, Ann (Dan) Thompson; brother, Jim Matt (Doris) Stewart, Jr.; sister-in-law, Tearrain Stewart; Deacon Eddie Hampton aka "Uncle Ned"; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Funeral service for Mr. Walter ("PaPa") Stewart will be Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church with The Reverend Dr. Don Darius Butler, Officiant and Elder Stacy Stewart, Eulogist. Mr. Stewart will be placed in the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Meadowlawn Garden of Peace.
Visitation will be Friday, March 11, 2022 at 5:00–6:00 p.m. at the Nelms Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
