Obituary

Velma Montague was born to the late James Wilson Montague and Willie Ina Whitworth on November 18, 1954 in Madison County. She departed this life on March 26, 2021 at Huntsville Hospital. She was preceded in death by: her son, Sederick Montague; grandson, Phillip Montague, Jr.; two great granddaughters, Kaelynn and Karrington Montague; and two brothers, Clarence Montague and Thomas Montague.

She received her early education at Mountain Fork School. Later, she attended adult night school to obtain her GED to better herself, as well as gain a better understanding of her job for advancement.

Velma confessed hope in Christ at an early age joining Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church in Elyria, Ohio. Later, moving back to Alabama, she joined Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. In her early 30s of Christian experience, she moved her membership to Gravitts Chapel AME Church and joined the adult choir and was a faithful member until her health started to fail.

She was employed by Huntsville Manufactoring in the mid 70s until the early 80s, after which she went to work in the caregiving field working at Whitesburg Garden from 1984 to 1989. In 1989 she started working for United Plating and was there for 12+ years until her health failed her in an extended battle with her health.

Velma was very big on family with being the 3 rd child of 9. She was the protector and nurturer of her brothers and sisters.

She worked hard to provide for her kids. There was nothing she wouldn't do for them, with being a young mother plenty of times she went without to make sure they had all that they needed.

She leaves to cherish her memories: three sons, Anthony Montague (Katrina), Patrick Montague, Phillip Montague, Sr., all of New Market, AL; one daughter, Lussonia Montague-Jones (Marlon) of New Market, AL; two sisters, Charlene Townsend of Birmingham, AL and Pamela Montague of Huntsville, AL; three brothers, Anthony Montague (Debbie) of Mansfield, TX, James Montague (Mary), and Bobby Montague (Patsy) of New Market, AL; nine grandchildren, Antonio, Christopher, Roderick Jr., Tiffany, Patrick Jr., Marrisha, Elijah, Jasmine and Jay'zon; and seven great grandchildren; Jayla, A'shai, Aliyah, Kingsley, Rylee, Ayden and Karter.
