Obituary

George was born on November 1, 1931, to Theodore (Jack) Blair and Dorothy Louise Scott and lived his formative years in Huntsville before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He dutifully served his country for 21 years until he retired back to civilian life. His post-military career led him to become a Captain of Security at Bellefonte Nuclear Plant in Hollywood, Alabama.  On September 18, 2021, in Huntsville, Alabama at the age of 89, a few weeks shy of his 90 th birthday, George went home to be with the Lord.

In 1959, he married Alice Amithyne Thomas and from this union, they had two sons, James and Charles Blair. Amithyne, as she was affectionately known, passed away ten years into their marriage. Several years later, he married Ethel Palmer Robinson, and his family grew with the addition of her sons, Talmadge and Johann Robinson.

George loved to sing. When he was in a particularly good mood, he'd serenade anyone within earshot with his rich, baritone voice and his ability to beautifully yodel. His favorite gospel singer was Lee Williams. In his younger years, he nurtured his talent for singing by joining a few gospel quartets. Another one of his passions was going to flea markets in search of treasures. He had the heart of a collector and his found-treasures brought him much joy. However, if you knew George , you would have known that his biggest passion, above all else, and the activity that he devoted the most time to, was weightlifting. He renovated his garage into a home gym and spent many hours doing what he loved – lifting weights. He was known in the neighborhood for his well-equipped gym and often shared the space with some of the young people who were eager for the opportunity to work out with him.

Preceding him in death are his parents and his niece, Nancy Blair West. Left to mourn his passing are his sisters: Ann Crutcher and Christine Freeman of Huntsville, AL and Athens, AL, respectively; his sons James Blair (Judy), Franklin, TN, Charles Blair, Huntsville, AL, William Talmadge Robinson, IV, (Tiara), Apopka, FL, Johann C. Robinson, Sr., Tuscumbia, AL and his devoted nephew, Theodore Blair who spent an inordinate amount of time making sure that George had whatever he needed when he needed it and was always responsive whenever George called on him. George loved his grandchildren. He had a huge soft spot in his heart reserved just for them and would do anything for them: Christina Crawford (Bryan), Matthew Blair, Maya Robinson, Whitney Robinson, Johann Christopher Robinson II, Jalil Palmer (J.P.) Robinson, Tyree Robinson, and great-granddaughter Aria Crawford along with other great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family thanks Gloria Garth, Priscilla Horton of Diversicare of Big Springs, Teresa Patton of Servant Home Care LLC, Pina Warren, and the staff at Floyd E. "Tut" Fann Veteran's State Home who provided excellent care, his neighbors the Camps and the Sanders who were there for George in his time of need, Nelms Memorial Funeral Home, and Valhalla Funeral Home and Memory Gardens.

At the end of his life's journey, George made peace, found peace, and now, may he forever rest in peace.
