Obituary

Horace Allen, Jr., passed away peacefully on January 22, 2021.  He was born on June 2, 1943 in Wilmington, North Carolina to the late Horace and Maggie Lee Allen.

He accepted Christ as his Savior in April 1972.  He acknowledged and accepted his call to the ministry in 1976.

Horace enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1966 and served 30 years including serving in the Vietnam War and was stationed at several military bases throughout the U. S. and abroad.  He ascended to the rank of Sergeant Major.  While serving in the military, he received several ribbons, medals and citation badges during his military career.   He was proud to have served his country.  He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 1067/AARP Chapter 1023, Disabled Veterans – Huntsville Chapter 2, and the American Legion.

After retiring from the Army, he worked at Alabama A&M University in the ROTC department and mentored many cadets.  He also dedicated his life working with the pastoral staff at Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church for over 30 years until retirement as an associate minister.  During his service with the church, he was the leader over the Stephen Ministry and loved working with the children in the Passage Ministry.  He loved God and he loved the church.

Minister Allen received a B. A. degree in Religion, B. A. degree in Business, and furthered his religious education through studies at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.

He leaves to cherish his memories: three children, Stephanie Allen of North Carolina, Mark Allen of California, and Thomas Allen of North Carolina; three sisters, Freddie Ireland of North Carolina, Mary Lee Leonard of Williamsburg, VA, and Marilyn Brown of North Carolina; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
