Obituary

Sirlean Louise Battle was born to John Thomas Battle, Sr., and Velma Nance Battle on September 21, 1940 in Madison County Alabama. She was called from this life to eternal life with her Lord on January 4, 2021.

Those who preceded her in death were her parents, John Thomas, Sr. and Velma Battle, her brother, John Battle, Jr. Sirlean was fondly known by her family and friends as "Lean".

As a child Sirlean attended a one room school located next door to Conley CME Church on Nick Fitcheard Road. She and her siblings and friends walked 2 miles to school each day.

Sirlean confessed Christ as her Savior and Lord, August 15, 1951 and joined New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. She was truly a faithful, dedicated member.

She graduated from Councill Training school in 1957 and was also a graduate of Alabama A&M College. Sirlean had a successful career with Chrysler for several years.

Sirlean was passionate about serving in her church and community. She was a member of the Matrons Circle, Junior, Intermediate and Senior Women Mission Auxiliaries. Other ministries included the Senior Choir, Church Historian, and coordinator of World Day Prayer. She loved Sunday School and learning about God's word and often quoted her favorite scripture: Isaiah 40:31 "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint".

Whenever you visited her home, it was evident she loved flowers, especially ferns. Precious memories are cherished by her son, Pastor Larry Wayne Battle whom she adored; one granddaughter, Janye Roberson; a sister, Betty Kinnaird of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; a brother, Joe (Elizabeth) Nance of Huntsville, Alabama; three nieces, Demetreis Johnson, Drusilla Nance, and Shelia Turner; three nephews, Thaddeus (Alberta) Nance, Mark Kinnaird and Ronald (LaSand) Kinnaird; four great nieces, LaNisha Leslie, Harolyn (Derik) Williams, Gabrielle Turner, and Christina Turner; one great nephew, William Earl Johnson; one great-great nephew, Ja'Kai Johnson, and numerous of cousin and friends.
