Sergeant First Class (Retired) Jamie Denise Jones-Howard was born on May 19, 1980 in Woodville, Texas to the late James Edward Jones and Linda Fay (Mitchell) Jones.
She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and was baptized at the Little Baptist Missionary Baptist Church of Hillister, Texas where she became a member. She was raised in Hillister and graduated from Woodville High School, Class of 1998. Jamie completed her educational studies and graduated from American Military University with an associate degree in Early Childhood Education.
Jamie enlisted in the United States Army on January 22, 1999 to proudly serve our country as a Human Resources Specialist. She was stationed at military bases that include Fort Rucker (Enterprise), AL; Fort Benning (Columbus), GA; Fort Jackson (Columbia), SC; Fort Campbell (Clarksville), KY; and MEPS Albuquerque, NM. She was deployed to Iraq from March 2007 to May 2008 and received the Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star and the Global War on Terrorism Medal. Throughout her military career, she graduated from several military schools and trainings, and received numerous accolades and awards to include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (5 th award), Army Achievement Medal (3 rd award), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (6 th award), National Defense Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (2 nd award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Marksmanship Badge with Rifle Bar.
She retired from the United States Army on April 1, 2020, after completing over 20 years of faithful service to our country. During her travels in the military, she made numerous friends that became family including her temporary church homes at Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Phenix City, AL, New Hope Missionary Baptist Church of Clarksville, TN and Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Albuquerque, NM.
Sergeant First Class (Retired) Jones-Howard is preceded in death by her Father: James E. Jones, Grandmothers: Leonia Jones and Dorothy Mitchell, Grandfathers: Henry Mitchell and Robert R. Evans, and her rainbow baby boy.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Mother: Linda Fay Jones, Hillister, TX, Husband: Russell Howard Jr., Huntsville, AL, two daughters: Breanna Jones and Anissa Howard of Huntsville, AL, two sons: Ahmad Abdulbarr and Russell Howard III of Huntsville, AL, two sisters: Latesha Mitchell Tuitt of Huntsville, AL and Bridgett Jefferson of Houston, TX, brother: Marcus Jones of Beaumont, TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Public Viewing for

will be Sunday, February 14, 2021 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. in the Nelms Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral service will be Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Eagle Summit (700 Eagle Drive - Woodville, TX).
Interment will be in the Little Baptist Cemetery – Woodville, TX.
