Rosie Marie Taylor
August 5, 1931 – November 29, 2025
Rosie Marie Taylor, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of quiet strength, steadiness, and care.
Born in Huntsville, Alabama on August 5, 1931, to David D. and Rosa Lee (Anderson) Lipscomb, Rosie was known throughout her life for her intelligence, loving nature, graceful presence, and beauty. She married U.V. Marvin Taylor on her 16th birthday, August 5, 1947. Together, they would raise eight children. While Marvin provided for the family, Rosie was the one who created and maintained a stable and well-cared-for home. Her presence and consistency gave her children a foundation and a sense of security.
In 1955, Rosie and Marvin moved to New York, where they continued raising their family. Rosie was baptized into the Jamaica Seventh-day Adventist Church in the mid- 1960s and sang in the church choir. Music was a lifelong joy for her—she studied piano as a child and later took up the organ as a hobby. She especially loved Broadway musicals and often filled the home with her beautiful singing voice.
In the late 1960s, Rosie and her family returned to Huntsville, Alabama. There, Marvin worked as a physical plant engineer, and Rosie worked the switchboard while continuing to nurture her family. At that time, she also received her GED and went on to college. Later, after returning, once more, to New York, Rosie earned her CNA certification and provided care to others, including the mother of a prominent Long Island judge. Rosie also completed her LPN course, but was unable to work in the nursing field due to a back injury she received while moving a patient during training.
In 2002, she and Marvin moved back south to New Market, Alabama, where they spent their later years together until his passing in 2006.
Rosie was preceded in death by her husband, U.V. Marvin; sons, Larry Laverne (Lillie) and Stephen; and grandchildren, Hamilton and Teresa. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: John Walker, Henry Collis, William Teneadus, Eva Humphrey, and Dimple Estelle Scott, as well as by all of her in-laws. She held a special closeness with her in-laws, Theoplus J. Taylor, Gladys Jacobs, and
Dolores Lipscomb.
She is survived by her children: Marvina Taylor, Velma Marie Valentine (Marlin), Deborah Ann Bogan (Ervin), Thomas David Taylor, Dolores Taylor, and Marvin Taylor. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Wayne, Michael (Danya), Kamina (Guy), Lisa, Tina (Jamel), Ervin Lee, Bruce, Larry Jr., Mark, Gary, Luciana (Bobby), James, Stephen, Derick, Darryl, Paul, Gabriel, Malachi, Hadassah, Judah, and Liana. She is also survived by 23 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, her dog "Pussycat", and a host of nieces and nephews.
Rosie Marie Taylor lived a life defined by steadiness, kindness, care, and delicious foods, such as pineapple upside down cake, and so much more. She was the steady center of her family—always dependable, always present. Her loving nature, graceful beauty, and quiet strength touched all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
