Obituary

Reuben Washington was born October 29, 1938, in Madison, Alabama, to the late Willie Washington and Bessie Macklin Washington. He departed this life on Monday, August 19, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois.

While growing up in Madison, Reuben was known by the name "Rocking Chair" because of the way he rocked when he walked. Reuben was educated in the Madison County School System. he confessed hope in Christ at an early age and continued to honor him as his Lord and Savior until his death.

Reuben relocated to Chicago as a young adult and was employed by Curtis Candy Company. He also worked as a Longshoremen for many years. He later decided to venture out on his own and became self-employed. He was affectionately known by his friends and associates as "The Fred Sanford of Chicago". Reuben was the most kindhearted and generous person that you could have ever met. He had a very giving heart and would always help you out if you were down on your luck . He helped both family members and non-family members and even complete strangers if the need be.

He was also preceded in death by his siblings: William Lewis Washington (Buster), Jessie Washington, John Eddie (Smoke) Washington, James Earl Miller, Willie B Washington, and Bessie Lee Washington.

Reuben is survived by his sisters: Mary Washington of Chicago, Illinois, who was also his caregiver, even though they were only two years apart, and Fannie Washington of Harvest, Alabama; sister-in-law: Annie Washington of Chicago, Illinois; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He always wanted to see his nieces and nephews excel in life and always encouraged them to do so. He had two special nephews, Marvin Washington, who was also his caregiver and was always there whenever he needed him even up until the end and Antuian Tibbs, was also there whenever he needed him.

Funeral service for Mr. Reuben Washington will be at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Moses Chapel Primitive Baptist Church.  Buriel will be in the Washington Cemetery.  Mr. Washington will be placed in the church one hour prior to service,
