Obituary

Ralph Vassar was born March 17, 1924 in Montevallo, Alabama to the parentage of the late Gilford Vassar and Nellie Smith Vassar.

Early in life Ralph decided to make Jesus Christ the Lord of his life.  Across the years, his faith never wavered.

On Christmas Day in 1947, Ralph married the love of his life, Claudia Ann Green. For 68 memorable years, they loved, honored, and cherished each other until Claudia's passing in 2016.  Their union was blessed with two children: Audrey Vassar Plummer (deceased) and Byron Vassar.

Ralph and Claudia left Alabama to live and work in New York. In New York, Ralph was employed in the printing industry as well as providing laboratory support services. While in New York, Ralph and Claudia united with the Concord Baptist Church of Christ, Brooklyn New York under the pastoral leadership of the late Dr. Gardner C. Taylor

Upon retirement in 1986, Ralph and Claudia returned to Huntsville and reunited with the First Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Dr. Julius Scruggs. Ralph found great joy as a member of the Men's Sunday School Class and in his latter years was faithful in worship and study.

Ralph is survived by his son, Byron (Dorothy) Vassar; four grandchildren, Jason Plummer, Darius Plummer, Takata Felix, and Maendaleno Vassar; five great-grandchildren, Royale Felix, Jael Brown, Jamal Vassar, Anthony White, and Darius Plummer, Jr.; Supportive Friends, Deacon Sydney Hutchinson, Deacon Willie Littlepage, and Brother Earnest Davis as well as the First Missionary Baptist Church Family.
