Pierrette Alfrede
Hodge Hamel
Aug 2, 1920 — Jan 8, 2022
Alfred Hodge and his wife, Alice Beatrice Hodge, were blessed to have 10 children. Large families were not unusual sixty-seventy-eighty-ninety years ago.
On August 2, 1920, in a quaint village in French Cul De Sac on the island of St. Martin, their sixth child named Pierette Alfrede Hodge was born.
At the age of 10, Pierette went to live with her uncle August Hodge and his wife, Marie Hodge, in an adjacent town named Grand Case, where she continued her schooling. She was an excellent student. She became fluent in French and English. Her bilingual ability enabled her to translate her native English language to French for her family and friends. She was blessed to have devoted Christian teachers, whose values and influences lead her to be baptized into the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was one of the first young Adventists on the French Side of the Island. In her new found Christian life, she began having a wonderful relationship with friends, whom she regarded as family. She was also a gifted seamstress.
She moved to the main Island of Guadeloupe, where she met and married the love of her life, a wonderful Christian man, Robert Hamel. They were blessed with five children.
She was blessed to live a long, productive, active and healthy life. After a very short illness, she gently went to sleep in Jesus on January 8, 2022 with the blessed hope that she will see Jesus in that "great getting up morning".
Those cherishing her memory are: her five children, Alain Hamel (Pricilla), Lena Hamel, Evelyne Hamel, Jean Hamel, Jacques Hamel (Tanya); her brother, Isidore; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and friends.
