Nadine Gurley Farris affectionately known as Nana, was born on September 11, 1946, to the late Isiah Gurley and Beatrice Kelly Gurley.
Nadine was educated in the Madison County School System where she attended Mount Carmel Elementary, Brownsboro Junior High and high school at Council Training School. She later earned her certification for Preschool Education.
She began her journey as a preschool instructor in 1980 at Manzanita Elementary School in Oakland, California where she worked until 1997. She continued her career at Union Hill Child Development Center where she was one of the first instructors. She remained in this position until her retirement in 2014.
She confessed hope in Christ at an early age. She was actively involved with youth ministry at Memorial Tabernacle Church in Oakland, California. Upon returning to Huntsville, she joined Union Hill Primitive Baptist Church. She served faithfully in the Voices of Praise Choir, Women's Auxiliary, and as Assistant Advisor with Youth Auxiliary until her health began to fail.
Nadine departed this life on August 19, 2024 at Huntsville Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Henry, Sr., brothers: George Gurley, Sidney Gurley, Robert Gurley, and Willie Gurley; sisters: Katherine Whitman, Marie Pride, Lois Gurley, Alberta Kelly, Ruthie Mae Tolbert, and Nannie Mae Gurley.
She leaves to honor her memory a loving daughter: Chadeb Henry; two grandchildren: Chaniva (Bobby Strickland) and Isaiah Henry; four great-grandchildren: Carter, Carsyn, Canaan, and Caz; one sister: Patricia Williams; brother: Rodger (Geradaline) Gurley; special nephew: Dexter Williams all of Huntsville, Alabama; special niece: Monica (Mervyn) Griffith of Michigan; treasured sister-friend: Brenda (James) Benjamin of Oakland, California; and a host of other relatives, extended family and cherished friends.
Nadine had a tremendous impact on others over the years. She was loved by many and will truly be missed.

Funeral service for Ms. Nadine Farris will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024 from the Union Hill Primitive Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Oscar Montgomery officiating. Interment will be in the Valhalla Memory Gardens. Ms. Farris will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
