Ms. Mattie "Louise" Gurley was born on July 10, 1933 in Huntsville, Alabama to the late Arthur Gurley, Sr. And Alice Hamilton Gurley. She transitioned peacefully from this earth into eternal rest at her home on October 30, 2021.

Louise was preceded in death by: five of her siblings, Arthur Gurley, Jr., Mary Lee Jones, Florence Myers, Lawrence Gurley, Frances Cornelious; and two sons, Wendell Gurley and Preston Gurley.

Louise accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Dr. Horace P. Snodgrass at First Missionary Baptist Church on Church Street, Huntsville, AL.

Louise was a Graduate of both William Hooper Council High School and Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University, where she majored in Early Childhood Education. She retired after 25 years as an Educator in the Huntsville City Schools. She truly loved her children and they loved her too.

She leaves to cherish her memories her son , Kenneth M. Gurley (Angela); daughters , Cynthia D. Gurley, Brenda Y. Gurley all of Huntsville, AL and Karen Joyce Gurley of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren , Kenny R. Gurley and Latoya Gurley-Hope (Jamel); two great grandchildren Jalon Gurley of Tucson, AZ and Kaden D. Hope of Huntsville, AL; a loving nephew who was like another son , Glenn A. Gurley; a loving cousin , Laura H. Daniel; a special and dear friend , Judy Williams; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends .

Funeral service for Ms. Mattie Louise Gurley will be Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Nelms Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Earla S. Lockhart officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
