On August 1, 1943, God blessed the world with one of His most precious creations, sending a joyful soul to bring love and happiness to the Cotton family and all who would come to know her.  Martha Marie Cotton-Taylor was born to the late Verbon Cotton and the late Beatrice Drinkard Cotton, who preceded her in death.

On Sunday, January 19, 2025, at the Family Hospice Care Facility, God visited room 101 and gently took Martha's hand, guiding her on a peaceful journey to her heavenly home.

She was preceded in death by her father, Verbon Cotton; her mother, Beatrice Drinkard Cotton; one sister, Rose Ann Harris; four brothers, Verbon Albert Cotton, Delbert Cotton, Nathaniel Cotton, and the late Neal Taylor, Jr; as well as aunts, uncles, and numerous other beloved family members and friends.

Martha professed her hope in Christ at an early age and became a member of Shiloh M. B. Church in Woodville, Alabama, under the leadership of the late Rev. W. P. Petty.  She was an active member, serving faithfully in various capacities and singing in the church choir.

Martha graduated from George Washington Carver High School in Scottsboro, Alabama.  After graduation, she attended the National Career College in Huntsville, Alabama, where she completed her college studies.

Martha Maria caught the attention of Neal Taylor, Jr., and the two were joined in marriage in September, 1963.  Their loving union was blessed with two sons, Neal III and Anthony who she cherished deeply and proudly referred to as her boys.

Martha worked as a data entry clerk at First Alabama Bank for over 20 years before retiring.  She was also employed at Meadow Gold Milk Company and Boeing Aerospace Company before fully retiring to devote her time to caring for her granddaughter Kimberly.

Martha enjoyed reading God's word, watching TV-especially westerns and soap operas – gardening, planting flowers, and baking cakes and pies.  In her spare time, she cherished spending time with her four grandchildren: Candice, Quinton, Anthony, Jr.  and Kimberly who affectionately called her "Good Mama."

She enjoyed singing gospel songs like: "Trouble in My Way," I am on the Right Road Now." "Show Some Sing," and her favor song "Precious Lord."

Martha's enduring love, strength, caring nature, and unwavering faith will forever be cherished in the hearts of those she leaves behind.  She is survived by her two loving and devoted sons Neal Taylor III and Anthony Taylor (Uraiwan); one caring brother, James

Lee Cotton (Stephanie); three devoted sisters, Mary Frances Cotton, Jeanette Cotton and Beulah Cotton; four cherished grandchildren, Candice, Quinton, Anthony, Jr., and Kimberly; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other dear relatives and friends.

On January 19, 2025, Martha knew she was on the right road and had made her peace with Jesus.  There was no trouble in her way as she embarked on a long, long journey to her heavenly home.  Her prayer for those she leaves behind is this: if you know the Lord, you need to show some sign. And now, we say, "Martha, take your rest, we will see you after a while.

"For to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" 2 Corinthians 5:8.
