Marie
Campbell
Apr 29, 1939 — Jun 24, 2025
Ms. Marie Campbell was born April 29, 1939, in Huntsville, Alabama to the late Mr. Earnest and Pearlie Mae Bragg Campbell. Her mother passed when she was 4 years old; therefore, she was reared by her grandmother Marie Lightfoot Bragg in the community called the Grove, Gardner Street and also known as the Hill in Downtown Huntsville AL.
She graduated from Councill High School; she had such a pleasant demeanor and attitude towards others and was full of laughter. She played a pivotal role in the renovation and rededication of the Cavalry Hill baseball field in the 1990's. The original fields home base plate is still displayed at the new field to this day. Marie and her neighborhood friends always played a game of softball at their leisure on the Cavalry Hill school grounds. She thrived in the work force in the 1960's as a Community Action Committee (CAC) employee under the leadership of the late Mr. Edwin Hill; she also was employed with City of Huntsville Police Department ensuring that the students got safely across University Drive enroute to University Place Elementary School and other assignments.
Marie was preceded in death by two siblings: Bertha Mea Campbell, Archie Campbell Sr. and one grandson Tyrone G. Campbell.
To cherish her precious memories, she is survived by: one son, Ricky Campbell (Sonya) of Louisville KY; four daughters: Detra L. Campbell, Artra C. Thompson (Michael), Mickey J. Burks (Henry), Joy D. Durr (Greg) and one sister Emma Campbell Locke all of Huntsville, AL; nine grandchildren: Dewayne M. Campbell (Latisha), Tequila A. Hassan (Jabir), O'lando M. Campbell (Kisha), Sharah A. McNeal (Taddeus), Sean M. Campbell; Breona M. Campbell, Aryona M. Burks, Nia A. Durr; and Zion O. Durr; eleven great grandchildren: Tyree Campbell, Avyon Campbell, Onterio Campbell, Daion Campbell, Kylon Campbell, Christian Campbell, Destinee Campbell, Joshus Green, Kaiden Campbell, Landon Campbell, and Mekhi Durr; three great-great grandsons; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who she encouraged and supported.
We lost a beautiful lady and we will feel the lost in many ways; however, we know that we as Christians will one day see her in Glory. The Lord chose to take her for a rest and we will meet AGAIN, "Rest on Mother, We Love You".
