Obituary

Mamie Renee Lewis was born on October 15, 1965, in Greensboro, Alabama, to the late Henry and Mamie Lewis. She went to be with the Lord on October 19, 2024.

Renee attended Uniontown Elementary School and graduated from Robert C. Hatch High School in May 1984. After graduating, Renee attended the Cahaba Center where she participated in vocational activities. Several months after her parents died, she moved to Huntsville, Alabama, to live with her sister, Sandra.

While in Huntsville, Renee participated in day activities and eventually joined the Madison County ARC, where she began employment at the McKemy Center. In January 2004, she moved into a group home with the Center for Developmentally Disabled. There, she made many friends and shared the home with several roommates for over twenty (20) years.

Renee loved to work, and was employed by several companies in the community, including US Diagnostics, Toyota, and Mitchell Plastics, where she worked until she became ill. She was looking forward to recovering from her illness and returning to work.

She participated in many Special Olympics activities and was highly competitive. She also went to camp at least twice a year, enjoyed proms and many other activities. She lived a rich and full life. One of the things she enjoyed most was Auburn football, in spite of their recent losing streak. Prior to the pandemic, she and her roommates went to at least one game each year.

She and her roommates enjoyed going to church and often attended various congregations with the group home staff until she became ill. She was baptized at an early age at Quinn Chapel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Uniontown, Alabama.

Renee was preceded in death by her mother and father, Henry and Mamie Lewis of Uniontown, Alabama, and a brother, Willie McClain Lewis of Columbus, New Jersey.

Renee leaves to cherish her loving memory; a special sister: Sandra Lewis James of Huntsville, Alabama; four brothers: HenryJames Lewis of Uniontown, Alabama, Robert (Vindella) Lewis of Buffalo, New York, Marvin Clay (Felima) Lewis of Birmingham, Alabama, and Carlton Anthony (Rosie) Lewis of Uniontown, Alabama; sister-in-law: Dionne Raeni Lewis of Columbus, New Jersey; two half-sisters: Janie Collins of Atlanta, Georgia and Shelia (Michael) Ifezuoke of Fort Wayne, Indiana; three half-brothers: Eldridge Phillips and Nelson Phillips of Uniontown, Alabama and Katara (Kathy) Phillips of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
