~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lois Loretta Pulley was born on June 11, 1924, in Toney, Alabama, the fourth child and eldest daughter of Isaac Pulley, Sr. and Fannie Scruggs Pulley.
Reared in a Christian-centered home, Lois attended Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Toney, Alabama, pastored by her grandfather, Julius C. Scruggs. With the guidance of her family, it was at Mt. Zion that she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior, resulting in a lifelong relationship.
Lois attended Toney High School, and upon graduating enrolled in the Grady Hospital School of Nursing in Atlanta, Georgia. After obtaining her nursing degree, she served her country during WWII as a member of the United States Cadet Nurse Corps.
Lois' vocation led her to Chicago, Illinois, where she worked as a pediatric nurse at Lying-in Hospital and Wyler Children's Hospital (currently Comer Children's Hospital). She gained the respect of her colleagues and patients alike. Her and dedication culminated in her being named Nurse of the Year at Wyler Children's Hospital and being appointed supervisor of Pediatric Nursing.
In 1977, Lois married Joseph L. Dade, and they remained together until his death in 2009. they initially made their home in Chicago but moved to Alabama in 1988. While living in Chicago, she and Joseph were members of Sixth Presbyterian (later Sixth Grace Presbyterian Church). When they moved to Huntsville, they became active members of Fellowship Presbyterian Church USA where she continued faithfully after Joseph's death. She served on the Usher Board, was a steadfast volunteer in the Food Distribution Ministry, and a reliable participant with the Presbyterian Women's Ministry. On March 10, 2024, Lois was the recipient of the Presbyterian Women Honorary Life Membership.
Anyone, friend or family, who visited her home, whether in Chicago or on Mt Charron Drive, was treated to great and lively conversation, lots of laughter, and the best food this side of the Mississippi. She was always a welcoming and engaging host.
Those who preceded Lois in life everlasting are her beloved husband: Joseph Dade; her parents: Isaac and Fannie; brothers: Hubert, Leo (Mae Sue), Isaac Jr. (Mildred), and Charles (Jean); sisters: Fannie Pulley, Eulasteen (Henry) Pulley Muse, and Ruby (Charles) Pulley Hamer. Those of us she leaves to celebrate her life and legacy are her brother-in-law: Henry Muse and nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she loved dearly  and they dearly loved her.
