Funeral service for Mrs. Irene Oglesby will be Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Saint Rebecca Primitive Baptist Church with Bishop Carl Pruitt as Eulogist. Mrs. Oglesby will lie in repose one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in the Saint Ruth Cemetery.

Mrs. Irene Oglesby was born on September 4, 1921 in Madison County, Alabama to the late Add Thompson and Lucy Patton Thompson. On Wednesday April 16, 2025 she was called to her eternal rest.
She was preceded in death by her parents Add Thompson and Lucy Patton Thompson, her sisters Mattie Townsend and Minnie Garner, her brothers Charlie, Walter Lee, Robert and Oscar Thompson, a son and a daughter.
Irene attended public schools in Madison County, Al. She dedicated her life to Christ at a young age. Upon returning to Huntsville she united with Zion Progress Missionary Baptist Church and remained an active member as her health and transportation needs allowed.
Irene was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Willie Oglesby, to this union one son and two daughters were born. Earl Wayne Garner a maternal great nephew whom they lovingly raised from infancy to adulthood as an adopted son preceded her in death. Terry Penigar a daughter preceded her in death.
Auntie and Granny as she was lovingly called was a cheerful, loving and caring person who will be remembered for her warming smile, kindness to everyone, unselfishness, and love for her family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory a son: Donald Oglesby (Sharon) of Snellville, Georgia; daughter: Carolyn Guthrie of Nashville, Tennessee; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; twelve great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves a loving and devoted granddaughter D'Andrea Oglesby; two devoted and loving nieces Ms. Gearlean Outlin and Ms. Linda Lynch; a loving and dedicated nephew: Bishop Carl Pruitt; and a host of other relatives and friends.
