Herbert
Carter
Apr 29, 1945 — Aug 16, 2024
Herbert "Bip" Carter was born on April 29, 1945, in West Virginia to the late Walter and Helena Carter. He was the youngest of nine children. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served 4 years before moving to Detroit, Michigan. In Detroit, he found employment at Chrysler Corporation.
It was in Detroit that he met the beautiful Christine Beauford, formerly of Columbus, Georgia. They wed on April 28, 1973. God blessed their union with three children.
In 1984, herb moved his family to Huntsville, Alabama, continuing his employment with the Chrysler Corporation. Herb was highly respected as a supervisor, gaining the reputation as one of the coolest supervisors until his retirement in 2006.
Known for his love of family, Herb always had an open door and a welcoming spirit. He encouraged his nephews Andra and Reece to relocate down south, leading to the expansion of the Carter family in Huntsville. Family was at the center of his world, and he frequently organized trips and gatherings to create treasured memories with his loved ones. A faith walk was important to him also. He professed Christ and accepted the Lord as his Savior.
In addition to his love for his family, Herbert had a passion for grilling and entertaining. His home was open to all, and he was always ready to provide a warm space for those in need.
He embraced life joyfully, often talking his wife on trips just to enjoy their hobbies and each other. Family reunions became a tradition close to his heart, and he took pride in bringing the Carter family together to share good good and create lasting memories. Everyone- family, friends, co-workers-knew Herb as a laid-back, all -around good guy.
His loyal, supportive, and devoted wife of fifty-one (51) years, Christine, his daughters: Pamela Redus and Crystal (Akeem) Davis; sons: Damon (Tiara) Carter and Dion Carter; sister: Velma Jackson will all forever hold him close in their hearts.. He was a cherished presence in the lives of his nine (9) grandchildren: Rhonda, Anastasia, Felicia, Jalen, Zy'Niya, Landon, Sa'Nya, Sidora, and Sydney; six great-grandchildren: brothers-in-law: Robert Hatch, Jeffrey Hatch, Alphonso (Michelle) Thomas; sisters-in-law: Sonya Hatch, Jackie (Manuel) Tucker, Theresa "Ann" Thomas, Dorse (Gerald) Richerson; and a host of devoted nieces and nephews.
