Obituary

George Edward West, Sr. was born on August 08, 1951 in Courtland, Alabama to John Ivory West and Annie Beatrice Johnson West.  He departed this life on Friday, October 22, 2021.  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Anthony Shean West and Rev. Michael David West.

After the family moved to Russellville , George attended Reedtown High School from the first through the eleventh grade and graduated from Russellville High School in 1969.

He confessed hope in Christ at an early age, was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Russellville, Alabama.

George spent four years in the U.S. Army before returning to Russellville for a while then moved to Huntsville, Ala.

George was the founder of the R & B band called the "Crystalites" .  They were very popular for many years.  He was a member of "The Gravy Train Express" out of Florence, Ala.

His employment included Brown's Ferry Nuclear Plant, Wyle Laboratories, and Daimlar Chrysler.  After retiring from Chrysler and because of his family's love of music, he became the owner of "Musicians Workshop." The Workshop became the love of his life until his health began to decline.

George Edward West, Sr. is survived by: a loving mother, Annie Beatrice West; his wife, Mary Jo West, four children; Kelly West, Kayquella Goode (Marez), George West, Jr., Lanecia West; and a stepson Barnard (BJ) Jones; seven sisters; Ella West, and Janet Groce of Russellville, AL. Mary Stewart and Phyllis Green (Harold) of Florence, AL, Gloria Babb of Murfreesboro, TN, Linda McGuire of Woodridge, VA, Molly Young of Staten Island, New York, five brothers; John L. West. Earl West of Los Angeles CA, Timothy West (Wanda) of Arlington, TX; Tony West of Russellville, AL; Gregory West of Cape Coral, FL; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

George was a source of knowledge; from teaching guitar lessons, to world history, to current events.  We will truly miss his enthusiasm about the world and for life.

Graveside service for Mr. George E. West, Sr. will be Friday, October 29, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at Valley View Memorial Gardens with Reverend Dr. Theodis Acklin officiating.
