Eugenia Lucretia
Horton
Jun 3, 1958 — Jan 5, 2025
Eugenia Lucretia Horton was born on June 3, 1958, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Homer and Sarah (Evans) Horton. As the youngest of three siblings, she was cherished by her family from the very beginning.
From an early age, Eugenia embraced her faith and was baptized at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church, a pivotal moment that shaped her life. She completed her education in the Birmingham Public School system, where she proudly participated in the Huffman High School Band. Her passion for learning led her to Southern Illinois University in Evansville, Illinois, where she earned a bachelor's degree in speech pathology.
Eugenia's radiant personality and warmth made her a true "people person." She navigated a diverse career that included roles as an advance sales associate, a customer service bank representative, a model, and, ultimately an air flight attendant. Eugenia began her journey with Trans World Airlines (TWA) in 1985 as a flight attendant based in St. Louis, Missouri. She recognized the significance of being a woman of color in her field and felt incredibly blessed to enjoy a career that fueled her spirit. Her career opened doors to explore the world. Through her unwavering dedication and exceptional service, Eugenia became a part of an elite team of flight attendants chosen to work with His Holiness, Pope John Paul II, during his tour of America. In 1992, she earned a well-deserved promotion to Flight Service Manager, a role in which she continued to inspire others throughout her aviation career.
Eugenia chose St. Louis as her home in 1992. She joined the St. Louis Christian Center, where she served as an usher and greeter and actively participated in the Women's Fellowship. Known for her distinctive patch of grey hair and impeccable style, Eugenia will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and generous spirit. Eugenia was blessed with many gifts, the most notable being her gift of giving. She raised and mentored three beautiful young ladies whom she practically adopted as her own. One of her hobbies was cooking; she was an excellent cook and owned every kitchen gadget imaginable. She also enjoyed exercising, especially running and jogging.
Eugenia will further be remembered for her beautiful smile and generous spirit. Sadly, Eugenia departed this life on January 5, 2025, in Madison, Alabama. She was welcomed into eternal peace by her beloved Father, Homer T. Horton, and her devoted mother, Sarah Horton.
In celebrating her life and the profound impact she had on those around her, Eugenia leaves to cherish her memory her brother, Steven Parker (Dixie) of Los Angeles, California; her sister, Betha Parker Mathews, of Huntsville, Alabama; three nieces, LaSonya (Jeffery) Cooper of Huntsville, Alabama, Je'niene Parker- Johnson of Los Angeles, California, and Stephanie Parker-Haarmann of Las Vegas, Nevada; one nephew, Nathaniel (Cherish) Muzik of Honolulu, Hawaii; and many great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
