Obituary

Ethel Mary Henderson passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021 in Huntsville, AL.  She was born to the late Lillie Bryant Gillery and the late Phinis Dexter, Sr.

She attended the Boiling Spring School in Wilcox County and later moved to Bessemer, Alabama with her mother.  During her teenage years, she spent several months with her grandmother, Etta M. Dexter in Chattaroy, WV.

She graduated from Miles College in Birmingham and accepted her first job at Alabama A&M University. After years of service in various positions with increased responsibility at Alabama A&M University, she retired as the Director of the Placement Office.

She married the late Robert Morris Henderson and they enjoyed 40 blissful years of marriage. The pair became an active team in the Huntsville community.  During leisure times, they enjoyed traveling in and out of the country. One of her favorite places to visit was the Hawaiian Islands.  She was very family-oriented and loving. During the summer of 1979, she hosted the first Bryant, Tennant, and Williams family reunion in Huntsville, Alabama.

Ethel accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age.  She was a devoted member of First Missionary Baptist Church where she enjoyed attending Sunday School and worship services.  She was a faithful member of the Regularettes Auxiliary and the Delta Omega Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.  She was most proud of co-chairing the Jazz Hatitude Luncheon where scholarships sponsored by the Zetas were presented to students.

Ethel is survived by a host of relatives and dear friends.
