Ernest Cowan was born June 18, 1956, in Madison, Alabama to the late J.D. Cowan and Needa Mae Fitchard Cowan ("Mommae"). Ernest accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age and became a member of Springhill Church in Madison, AL. Ernest was called home on January 25, 2025.
Ernest received his early and high school education from the Madison, AL school system where he also played basketball. Not long after graduating high school, Ernest became employed with Dunlop Tire Company where he worked until he was able to retire.
Ernest was a family man. His wife, Jacqueline Cowan, children and grandchildren were the joy of his life. He spent each day making sure they all had what they needed and wanted. In return, they were always there for him, especially during his recent time of need. Ernest will be missed.
He is preceded in death by: his father, J.D. Cowan; mother, Needa Mae Fitchard Cowan; his brothers: baby Lawrence Cowan, J.D. Cowan, Jr. (Juke), Booker T. Cowan, James Cowan (late sister-n-law Queenie Cowan) and Lorenzo Cowan, Sr.; brother-n-law, Warren Lacy; sister, Doris Washington (late brother-n-law Willie Joe Washington); sister-n-law, Bridgette Lacy; and beloved nephew, Lorenzo Cowan, Jr. ("Bubby").
Ernest leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife of 40 years, Jacqueline Cowan; two sons, Ernest Cowan, Jr. ("Lil' Ernest") and Charles Cowan ("Chuckie"); daughters, Erica Lacy and Kaliyah Lacy; granddaughters, Kaiana Lacy ("Kay Kay") and Clarity Cowan (affectionately known as "Pootie" and "Juicy"); grandsons: Kain Foster, Kaiden Lacy (affectionately known as "K.D."), Kylan Lanier and Ki'annis Lacy; sister, Phyllis Cowan; sisters-n-law, Priscilla Lacy and Daisy Cowan; brothers-n-law, Charles Ferail Lacy (Angie) and Marvin P. Lacy; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral service for
Mr. Ernest N. Cowan
will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Spring Hill Church (formerly Spring Hill United Methodist Church) with Rev. Dennis Jones, officiating. Mr. Cowan will lie in repose at Spring Hill Church one hour prior to funeral time. Interment will follow at Arnett Cemetery.
Public viewing will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 11:00 AM until 7:00 PM at the Nelms Memorial Funeral Home.
