Obituary

Doris Lee Kent-Baker, daughter of the late James Bradford and Novella Kent Pope was born December 18, 1955.  She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Kent and Linda Nell Kent.

Doris confessed hope in Christ at an early age at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in New Market, Alabama. She rededicated herself later in life at Guildfield Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Pastor Allataye Russ in Guthrie, Tennessee.  On Friday, October 28, 2022 God saw that Doris' work was complete and called her home to rest eternally.

Ms. Baker leaves to cherish her memories: two devoted children, her son, Kunta Bakari Baker of Laurel, MD and her daughter Darneika Baker-Copeland (Michael) of Clarksville, TN; two sisters, Michelle D. Pope and Sandra Patton (Erskine) both of Huntsville, AL; four brothers, James Kent (Teresa), William Pope, Rickey Pope (Bonnie), and JK Bradford all of Huntsville, AL and Dwight Bradford of San Jose, CA; three nieces, Shelia Ellison, Shashita Kent (James), and Kawanna Carter, all of Huntsville AL; nine nephews, William Bradford of Nashville TN, Rickey Carter, Marcus Carter, Curtis Carter, Shawn Pope, Zachary Garner, Kenneth Ellison, Jr., and Dwight Patton all of Huntsville, AL and EJ Patton of Imperial, CA; three aunts, Cora Kent, Victoria Pope, and Ruby Kent all of Huntsville, AL. She also leaves a lifelong best friend, Bernice Middleton and a cousin who was her honorary sister, Torissa Hooks of Huntsville, AL.

Ms. Baker had a genuine spirit that touched everyone that encountered her.  She was known for her wit, infectious laugh, and her generosity.  She was a steadfastly devoted mother who instilled in her children the values of hard work, integrity, and the importance of family.  Ms. Baker was a humble servant who often would give her last to help a friend.  She opened her heart and her kitchen to anyone who wanted a meal and made sure they felt at home.
