Carolyn Ann Smith was the third of four children, born to Nathaniel "Sunshine" Smith and Mae Sue Townsend Smith, in Huntsville, Alabama on November 27, 1953. She departed this life September 24, 2021, at Huntsville Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, two of her siblings, aunts, and uncles.

Carolyn was baptized at the Flint River Primitive Baptist Church under the pastorate of Elder Ross L. Payton and later moved her membership to the St. Mark Primitive Baptist Church under the pastorate of Pastor John L. Clay. During her tenure at St. Mark, she served on the Usher Board, taught Sunday School, served as the Director of the Youth Ministry, and other various committees. She loved to participate in bible study and PBTU hours. Most of all she was a student of the Word and she dedicated most of her leisure time to studying and didn't mind sharing the Word of God with whomever would listen.

Carolyn served as a government civilian for 35 years in support of the Department of the Army. Carolyn retired as a Financial Analyst to become her sister's caretaker.

Carolyn was a strong, loving, and independent woman. She was helpful and always the go-to person. Carolyn was a firecracker, but she was loved for her spirit. In her spare time Carolyn love to attend to her yard and plants. An avid shopper, she had a vast collection of suits, hats, purses, and jewelry. Carolyn loved her family dearly and was very protective of them. It was no secret that Carolyn's grandchildren were her pride and joy.

Carolyn will be fondly missed by her sons, Don (Charmaine) Smith and Bryant (Tara) Smith and her caring and loving daughter, Cheryl Smith (Calvin) Fletcher; her loving grandchildren, Cierra "CeCe", Donielle, Lil Don, Paige, Sydney, and Bryant Jordan Smith; one great grandchild Janna Tafari; her sister, Edwina Smith; two stepchildren Patty and David Toney; a host of step grandchildren; and a special friend Robert Spears.
