~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Joshlyn Carol Steger was born January 24, 1952 to the late Mr. Sept Childress and the late Mrs. Frances Childress in Madison County, Alabama. God saw that she was getting tired so He gently did what was best; He quietly whispered, "Come my Child and take your rest." She transitioned from her earthly tabernacle to eternal rest on December 11, 2024 at her home in Huntsville, Alabama with her family at her bedside.
Mrs. Steger was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Steger; her parents; her brother: William Childress, and sisters: Mary Pitts and Porthia Childress, and son: Rex Steger.
At an early age, Joshlyn recognized her need for a Savior. She joined the Acklin Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in the Berkley Community where she grew up as a loving and caring young woman. Joshlyn, affectionally known as "Joy" received her education in the Madison County School System at New Hope High School. She was a very good student with a special love for reading; throughout her life she read innumerable books- satisfying her thirst for knowledge.
Joy worked for many years at Huntsville Hospital and Kristen's Country Kitchen. She was a capable, competent, and hard worker; her attention to detail and her caring service with a beautiful smile endeared her to employers and customers. Mrs. Steger found enjoyment and delight listening to music (including) gospel), solving puzzles, playing cards and of course reading. Extra special was the time she spent nurturing and bonding with her grandchildren and other family members. We will miss her face, her touch, her humor, and all her acts of love.
Mrs. Steger had two dogs (Coco and Rio) that she raised and trained from mere puppies into the protective, therapeutic pets they became.
Joy began her battle with cancer about two years ago. From the beginning, she would say, "God's got me." Throughout her journey she often spoke of praying for everyone-the sick, the homeless and people all over the world. As she neared the end of her battle, she still said, "God's got me." Just the other day a gentle breeze, a silent call and her spirit took flight, "God got her." Now she awaits that "Great getting up morning" when the dead in Christ shall rise.
Joshlyn leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving and devoted family: her devoted husband: James Stone; two daughters: Kelly Steger (Stanley) and Tameka Steger (Mike); one son: Leslie Steger; two brothers: Wallace O. Cross and Charley L. (Sherrie) Cross; three sisters: Vivian Wilson, Barbara (Elder Johnny) Jones and Spring (James) Moore; her sisters-in-law: Rose Handley, Martha Dillard, and Nellie Humphrey; her brothers-in-law: Jimmy Steger, Ollie (Jennifer) Steger, Thomas Steger, and Allen (Renee) Steger; eleven (11) grandchildren, seven (7) great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
