Carl Edward Ray, was born February 18, 1950 to the late Charles and Stella Ray. He quietly transitioned to his heavenly home on March 17, 2025, surrounded by family. Carl received his early education in Huntsville at Winston Street and Calvary Hill Schools. He also attended Council High School and Alabama A&M University. Throughout the years, he looked forward to joining his Council High classmates for many community service activities and functions. Carl enjoyed sports and was an avid supporter of all Alabama A&M University sporting events.
Carl always presented himself with his own personal style which can be described as cool, calm, and collective. He loved his family and friends. He showed great pride and joy when supporting his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, all family members and friends in their many endeavors. He was an excellent pool player and enjoyed fishing, swimming, cooking, reading and playing cards. Carl was a very kind, outspoken, well-mannered and caring person who made helping others and visiting the sick a priority.
Carl was employed at the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) club under the leadership of his father. This inspired him to become the business owner of the Huntsville Club. He later relocated to Tunica to work at the casinos. Eventually, he returned home to Huntsville to be closer to family. Upon the death of his brother, Charles L. Ray, Jr., he stepped up to engage himself back into the operation of the family business at Nelms Memorial Funeral Home.
The precious memories of Carl Ray are cherished by his sons, Timothy Bouyett (Aleasa) and Carl Ray Jr., devoted daughter, Deana Bone; his adoring grandchildren, Marcus Gladney, Jr., Kamryn and Marc Bouyett, Kentrell Bone, Jaden and Jada Colley; god-daughter, Tametra Jones loving sisters Janice, Carolyn, and Cheryl Ray; nieces Terri Ray, Bridgett Strong, and Chandra (Kareem) Moore, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and a host of cherished friends he considered family.
His relationships with family and friends were special. He shared a unique bond and considered the following as his extended immediate family: Cynthia Shanklin, Bianca and Ciejie Bradley, Deborah, Felicia, and Robert (Courtney) Colley, Elizabeth (Liz) Lockhart, Stella Walker, Veronica Pearson, Harold Goodloe and all of their families.
