Funeral service for Mrs. Birdie Montague will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 12:00 PM at St. John AME Church with Rev. Claude Campbell, officiating. Interment will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Mrs. Montague will lie in repose at St. John AME Church one hour prior to funeral service time.
Public viewing will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025 from 9:00A.M.-7:00P.M. at Nelms Memorial Funeral Home.

Born on June 10, 1953 in New Market, Alabama, Birdie Montague was the daughter of the late Mr. Edward Martin and Mother Gladys Sisk Woods. Birdie Montague, a beloved wife, sister, and cherished member of her community, peacefully passed away on July 11, 2025. at the age of 72.
Birdie was one of ten (10) children. She shared an unbreakable bond with her eight sisters and one brother, creating a lifetime of memories filled with laughter, strength, and devotion. She is preceded in death by one brother, James Earl Woods; seven sisters: Dorothy Conley, Susie Thompson, Paulette Pruitt, Lillian Corn, Nadean Collier, Eddie Mae Woods Baker, and Mildred Pope.
On June 3, 1972, Birdie married the love of her life, Willie Lee Montague. Their union was a testament of enduring love and partnership that spanned more than five decades. Though Birdie and Willie were not blessed with children, the love they shared extended to their extended family and community.
Birdie was a faithful member of Gravitt Chapel AME Church where she served as a stewardess until her health declined. Birdie will be remembered for her gentle spirit and unwavering faith. she touched the lives of all who knew her with kindness and a quiet strength that left a lasting impression.
She leaves behind her devoted husband: Willie Lee Montague; sister: Willie Jo Hereford; sister/niece: Joyce Fearn; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and firends who will carry her memory forward with love and gratitude.
